You'll get to hear a new arrangement of gina 'waadluxan gud ad kwaagid (everything is connected to everything else), a work by local Haida composers Nang guláa k’aldangaas Alana-Joy Parrish and Sk’ing lúudas Natasha Parrish, who will be our special guests for the performance along with some of their family and friends.
We'll also be playing Chinese, Ukrainian, Brazilian, Icelandic, Czech, and Black American music, all written by members of those cultures, and all based on their traditional tunes or traditions melded with western classical music. This is a cheerful and varied program that is sure to brighten your November evening!
If you were at our summer concert, you've already heard two sneak peeks of this program: the third movement of China Breeze by Gao Hong, which we'll be playing in its entirety this time, and Rainbow Waltz by Florence Price, which we're bringing back along with more of her music.
This will be our first ever performance in Sidney, and only our second visit to Sooke, so if you have friends that live in those directions, we hope you'll let them know about our concerts.
